I think we could all forgive the weight and traction issues if it just had AWD available on V8 models. Dodge makes !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! different Challenger variants now, but none offer AWD with a V8 or a stick shift.

There are probably very good technical reasons why.  I suspect either size or torque capacity are the issues.  Solvable problems to be sure, but that means investing and FCA doesn’t see any reason to spend money on these unless it’s its more engine.

Likely no FWD components that fit can handle the torque. And reengineering the front end is a new generation thing, which...well..keep waiting...

They just need to shoehorn in one of the assorted awd systems from the Hemi Grand Cherokee or Durango. Unless those don’t fit. Or whatever they used back on the awd Hemi Magnum, unless that only works with the old 5-speed auto. But I dunno what market there really would be for that even if it’s a relatively small investment to make happen.

“More engine” hits diminishing returns when “more traction” becomes a reality.

The real goal is “more speed, ” and traction is the bottleneck for everything except the Demon and the GT AWD. For opposite reasons.

I’d buy a manual, AWD 392 Challenger yesterday.

Yeah. Why not. A Jeep Grand Cherokee TrackHawk has 700hp, AWD, and a ZF8 speed. its all the same parts that are in various forms of Challenger

I think the reason those systems work is because they can move the engine up a little to clear the front diff, where in the LA cars, they can’t.

Would you though? The RWD 392 is $40,000 and there’s a lot of good stuff in that price range

Im not disagreeing at all, just stating what are the likely reasons.

In the sense that it will soldier on forever without getting a re-design?

Yep, definitely.

Needs little electric motors fitted to each front wheel. Then they could call it a hybrid muscle car.

Huh, it just now occurred to me that’s why the R35 GTR has a kinda high hoodline. They’d have to completely restyle the Challenger. Or give it an obnoxiously cowled hood. Which, I mean, it would fit the character of the car at least

I guess I’ll just have to pick up an old Magnum R/T AWD. Stupid Dodge.

IMO an adding AWD to a Muscle car defeats the purpose.

Those who claim traction issues need to learn foot control, sorry, but it’s the truth.

I’ve driven a few Hellcats and a Demon, they have plenty of traction when you want to go all out. When you want to drive normal, they drive like a typical cruiser.

You used to be able to get an AWD R/T for both challenger and charger, but not with a manual trans, as the AWD model actually used its own trans with a PTO shaft on the side for the front wheels

If doge offered the Magnum with AWD, a V8, and a stick shift I would have never bought a Subaru.....now all i see is Subaru’s....and 90's fords.

There are... the AWD system can’t handle the power. I know some people who are heavily into Mopars and that’s basically the reason.

There is a beefed up AWD system for the Jeep GC Trackhawk. But that AWD system is not the AWD system available on the LX cars.

I imagine it will become available on the LX replacement which should be coming out in 2021.

Elaborate?

It’s already powerful, quick in the 1/4 mile, too heavy, and too old. With AWD they’d be practically identical

Most of the hype around the GTR stems from how many computers control it, even if it’s a decade old, the computer tech in the GTR is still years ahead of the brutish Dodge.

Y ou could get a V8 and model from 05-10 in either charger or c300 I beli eve . In the 09-10 years the AWD is electronically activated so you can turn it on and off while driving. I don’t think the engine mounting points changed but maybe the transmission for the newer v8s is bigger?

Even if they could technically do it, they’d probably have to retest and re-certify with the EPA and for CAFE, which is expensive for the 3 cars they’d sell equipped like that.
